SWM: Freeport Brazosport coach honored

Swimming & Diving

Retirement was supposed to be in 2004 for Robert Leffingwell.

But he simply has not been able to stay away from helping the young athletes he guided for 38 years.

Now for all of his dedication to the community of Freeport, and more importantly to the students of Freeport Brazosport High School, Leffingwell will be honored today with the naming of the Robert “Bob” Leffingwell Natatorium.

“I feel very honored and humbled,” Leffingwell said. “But I am very appreciative of being able to see it while I am still here. I am just thankful for all of the people that have been involved.”

SWM: Moldenhauer at home in Austin

Swimming & Diving

Lily Moldenhauer took the block for her final swim as a San Antonio Churchill Charger on Saturday and proceeded to flash a glimpse of the future. The soon-to-be Texas Longhorn looked to the stands and, playing to what will become her home crowd next fall, flashed the “Hook 'em” gesture with her hands.

“It's fun because this is now going to be my pool,” she said with a grin.

Capping off her brilliant high school career, Moldenhauer took home three gold medals and a bronze in leading the Chargers to second place in the Class 5A state swimming and diving championships at the Jamail Texas Swim Center in Austin.
