SOF: San Elizario coach moves to baseball

Softball news

San Elizario softball coach Peter Viola moved from softball to baseball, allowing track coach Lorena Hernandez to take over the Eagles' softball team. Viola replaces Marc Herrera, who left for El Paso Eastlake.

SOF: Bushland coach accepts Amarillo job

Softball news

Brent Morris, who led Bushland to three straight Class 2A playoff appearances, accepted the softball coaching position at Amarillo High, Amarillo Independent School District athletic director Brad Thiessen said Saturday.

Morris accepted the position Wednesday, nearly a month after Thiessen announced Burleson's Perry Young had been chosen to replace former AHS coach Bo Dees, who went 21-40 in two seasons.

SOF: Gatesville hires coach

Softball news

Crystal O'Brien, a former standout softball player and championship coach, was recently named Gatesville's new softball coach.  Todd Shelton takes over the Gatesville boys basketball program.

The two replace Michelle and Brian Edwards — Michelle took the Waco Midway job while Brian, her husband, stepped down as head coach but remains at Gatesville as a girls basketball assistant.

SOF: Estacado names coach

Softball news

Plainview softball coach Stan Countryman will take over the reins next season at Lubbock Estacado.

Countryman, 51, has compiled a 198-124 career record in 12 years as a head coach. He spent the last seven seasons at Plainview, where he made the playoffs each of the past two years, and five seasons before that at Frenship.
