VB: Coastal Bend sees coaching changes

Volleyball - Volleyball news

Three of the best volleyball teams in the Coastal Bend will have a new coach this season.

Former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defensive specialist and outside hitter Kara Wallace was promoted in June to be Joni Luna’s successor as the Corpus Christi Flour Bluff volleyball coach. Corpus Christi Calallen hired Alicia Ostmeyer, who also has A&M-CC ties. Ostmeyer takes over for Lupe Cardona, who is now the volleyball coach at Mathis.

Cardona steps in at Mathis for Leticia Leal, who Pirates athletic director Paul Kilby said opted to coach at Mathis Junior High to give her more time to tend to her newborn child.

Curry, who is starting her eighth season at Sherman, has been named the head volleyball coach of the Lady Cats following the resignation of longtime coach Malina Aleman last month. Aleman is moving to Dillingham Intermediate School to teach physical education.
