Houston Lee brings back football

Football - Football News

Last February, it was decided to bring football back to Houston Lee for the first time since 2000. It will field a junior varsity team the next two seasons with plans for a varsity in 2012 — the school's 50th anniversary.

Lee is no stranger to football success. The Generals were regulars in the playoffs in from the 1960s through the late '80s. Former University of Texas quarterback Peter Gardere played at Lee in the '80s, and Joe Clements coached here in the '60s.

But that tradition has faded and a student body that is one of the most diverse in the area has moved in. Gary Castille, who was coaching the volleyball team, has literally started from scratch with the football program.

The team forfeith six district games and Garman had to sit out his senior season.

This past February, Garman's family rented a home in Southlake.
