Three of the best volleyball teams in the Coastal Bend will have a new coach this season.

Former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defensive specialist and outside hitter Kara Wallace was promoted in June to be Joni Luna’s successor as the Corpus Christi Flour Bluff volleyball coach. Corpus Christi Calallen hired Alicia Ostmeyer, who also has A&M-CC ties. Ostmeyer takes over for Lupe Cardona, who is now the volleyball coach at Mathis.

Cardona steps in at Mathis for Leticia Leal, who Pirates athletic director Paul Kilby said opted to coach at Mathis Junior High to give her more time to tend to her newborn child.

Gainesville coach Glenn Jacobs will take over for Steven Jones as the Class 5A Corpus Christi King volleyball coach.

Jones recently took the volleyball head coaching job at Plano East.
